Marshall Field:The Rise of Chicago
Walt Whitman interviews Marshall Field illuminating Field's childhood and move to Chicago. Field then narrates the story of Chicago supported by keynote slide photos. From the beginning of the first settlement to the rise of the Queen City of the Midwest and the rise of Marshall Field's famous store. The 1871 fire is described hour by hour with photos. As one audience member said, "It's the best description of the fire he has ever heard." And how the Tribune cat that survived the fire. In a video Daniel Burnham speaks from the 1893 world's fair . He and Marshall talk about the new fair dessert, the brownie. And of course the origin of "give the lady what she wants." No one has a program as interesting as this one.
